I left art college with a degree in Art & Design, but I couldn’t find a job in the creative space. So, I compromised and found a job in retail. This job turned into a twenty-five-year career and I became a senior leader in my industry. I climbed the corporate ladder quickly and with ease for a woman in a man’s world, but it took me a while to identify why I was so successful.
It was my creative thinking that set me apart from my peers. My ability to see the end result in full technicolour and work backwards. The ability to inspire and motivate a team by painting a crystal-clear picture of what great looked like. The ability to have courage and do things differently in order to stand out from the crowd. None of these skills really stood out to me, I just did them, so I considered them the ‘norm’, until one day my boss told me I had something unique. This struck a chord in me and forced me to really think about how I could use my ‘uniqueness’ in my life.
I embarked on a journey of self-development and added lots of qualifications, experiences, new people and self-acceptance to my portfolio for life. Thank goodness I did, because eleven years ago I lost everything! Six figure career; 13 year marriage; my beloved dad; relationship with my sister; my home and every penny I had. Gone in a period of 12-months.
Fast forward to 2018 and I had re-built my life and was ready to stop making excuses about my creative genius. Thanks to a push from my late husband, and a beautifully considered gift of an easel and art equipment, I started to create again. I started to paint what was in my head and a series of images about women and empowerment sprung onto the paper and canvas. All of those women who had struggled with self-confidence and not been able to see their ability and power became my inspiration.
Taking a leap of faith, I launched my new business, The Creative Business Academy’ on Boxing Day 2019. Now, I have mixed together all of those business skills and my creative genius just like I mix the gorgeous colours on my palette. The calling was strong and the end vision crystal clear, I was going to help thousands of creative women to step into their power and become successful entrepreneurs.
I have created a six-figure business in less than nine months, but more importantly, I am helping so many women to do exactly the same by teaching them the very same strategy I used to do it! This is what creativity means to me. Using your ability to think and act uniquely in order to improve your own life and the lives of others. When you bring your authentic, original self into a business and add a rock-solid strategy it is a gift to the universe and your vibration resonates at a high level for others to see clearly where they are going and how you can help.
I am now an Artist, Author and Creative Genius Consultant and I have a wonderful life, doing what I love, and using my creativity for me every single day.
If I can, so can you!
