When you think of the most stylish woman you know, she probably isn’t the most fashionable woman but she's probably very consistent with her look. In her choice of clothes. It’s likely she’s discovered a look that suits her body shape, it's appropriate for her lifestyle, she knows what makes her feel confident and comfortable, and she sticks with it! Depending on lifestyle and her personal taste, that look may be classic or edgy, crisp or fussy, feminine or funky.
So, although you certainly don't have to fit into any of these categories, it can help to formulate what you like and what you don't like. It's quite usual for us to feel an affinity with two or even three different looks - after all we're different people at different times! And although we may recognise and admire the style of others, we find it surprisingly difficult to identify our own Style Personality! We may not even have decided what it is yet. Or with time, it may have changed, or we find ourselves in a style rut that hasn’t accommodated our changing lifestyle, roles and age.
You don't have to dress in the latest fashion to be stylish - but you do have to feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing.
Are you secure enough to stick to your style personality - or do you shop in panic and think you should be someone you're not? Do you try to emulate somebody you know, a celebrity or Instagram style influencer perhaps?
Your personal style, while appearing to be external, is actually deeply internal. It reveals who you are in a way that is entirely unique to YOU. It is an outward expression of who you are inside. Or at least SHOULD be to be congruent. With increasing reliance on virtual meetings and online methods of communication, in which a judgement of first impressions will be made within 7 seconds at most, style personality is paramount in saying something about who you are, what your preferences are and hint at who’s inside the visual image.
Psychiatrist, Dr. Samantha Boardman was quoted as saying “When you wear something that makes you feel great, the effects may be subtle — the way you tilt your head, your facial expressions — but they matter.”…“The right outfit can help you feel more confident when you need it most — it can serve as both armour and inspiration.”
It’s an important element that when united with figure flattering, age and lifestyle appropriate styles combine to create your unique style blueprint. Leave any one of these elements out and you can find your style satisfaction slipping.
Your personal style e is conveyed through the items and accessories you choose to wear and the way in which you wear them.
Of course, personal style evolves, time and life experiences can cause us to express ourselves differently. The change often occurs with fluctuations in confidence, as life results in us becoming more or less confident over time.
